OUR PROJECTS

The restoration of Historic Central Academy is a vital, multi-phased undertaking dedicated to preserving this National Historic Site and fulfilling our mission to rebuild for future generations. Our work involves careful historical assessment, structural stabilization, and a comprehensive renovation plan. This page outlines the key stages of the restoration—from initial groundwork to the final grand reopening—and details the specific projects currently underway that you can support.

OUR MISSION >

Central Academy was founded in North Palatka in 1892. During these times, "Separate but equal," was the law of the United States (Plessy vs. Ferguson 1896). In 1925, under Professor Clarence Walker, Central Academy became the first accredited school of any kind in Florida.

On November 12, 1998, the Historic Central Academy Board was created and the school was registered as a National Historic Site. The mission of The Historic Central Academy Board is to restore the legacy and rebuild Central Academy for future generations.
